Ohema means Queen in the language of Akan* people in West Africa, where our founder Johanna Eba is from. At Ohema by Eba, we truly believe women are queens and we would like to celebrate us. Born and raised in Cote d‘Ivoire, Johanna grew up around Akan gold weights (poids baoulé), pearls, beads and all sorts of symbols of beauty that inspired her to create the brand.
*The Akan are a meta-ethnicity living in Ghana and Ivory Coast. Akan art is wide-ranging and renowned, especially for the tradition of crafting bronze gold weights, using the lost-wax casting method. The Akan culture reached South America, the Caribbean, and North America.
